On May 20, 1927, Charles Lindbergh lifted off from New York City in his Ryan NYP monoplane, bound for Paris. Thirty-three hours and 3600 miles later, he stepped out in France to a roaring crowd. The Spirit of St. Louis later toured the US, Central and South America and the Caribbean, with each host country's flag painted on the cowling; its last flight carried it from St. Louis to Washington D.C., where Lindbergh handed the plane to the Smithsonian, its home today.
Retro51 recreates that story on the officially licensed Smithsonian Collection of Fine Writing Instruments. Graphics and details of the aircraft are worked onto the twist-top Tornado™ rollerball through acid-etching and printing on the barrel, finished with antiqued trim and the Smithsonian name and logo on top. Pick up this token of historical achievement and challenge yourself to unimaginable accomplishments.
This numbered edition celebrates the Spirit of St. Louis with a distinct array of acid-etched plus printed graphics, stonewashed pewter accents, and a Smithsonian sun logo on the top disc. A commemorative Spirit of St. Louis label on each Smithsonian tube completes the design, and a convenient rollerball refill comes included.
