Dry, scratchy ink that skips and false-starts is exactly what Van Dieman's Ink Fountain Pen Ink Wetter is made to fix. It lowers the surface tension of fountain pen ink so the ink moves through the pen faster and lays down a smoother line.
Less surface tension means a “wetter” ink. Your pen feeds more freely, the nib glides instead of catching, and those irritating skips and hard starts mostly disappear. Writing gets noticeably more pleasant.
Surface tension tells you how readily a liquid flows and soaks into paper. High-tension inks creep along slowly and sit on the page — that's the “dry” ink you've probably met. Plenty of pens handle dry ink fine, yet others simply need something that flows more easily.
This additive covers several jobs at once. It brings surface tension down, so ink runs more smoothly and absorbs into paper more readily. An antifoaming chemical stops bubbles and foam from building up and choking the feed. A mild cleansing action lifts grease, dried dye, and stray microparticles such as shimmer and dust out of the pen. And a broad-spectrum antimicrobial keeps mold and bacteria out of both your ink and your pen for up to 48 months.

SHAKE BOTTLE BEFORE USE
Before treating a whole bottle, pull out a small amount of your chosen ink with the included pipette into a clean glass jar and test there.
Measured with the included eye-dropper, add 1.0ml of Ink Wetter for every 100ml of fountain pen ink. Stir it in, or cap the bottle and turn it gently — vigorous shaking is not what you want. Fill a clean fountain pen and check whether the wetness suits you.
If an ink is especially dry, scratchy or slow-flowing, go up by another 1.0ml of Ink Wetter per 100ml of ink, then refill and test again. Don't push past 5.0ml of Ink Wetter per 100ml of ink.
