Maki-e has been a hand-applied Japanese decoration for more than 1200 years, and it's still handled the old way. Accredited artists lay down traditional Urushi lacquers together with gold, silver, enamel and abalone shell (mother of pearl), building the image in layers on the pen body.
Only craftsmen with real experience — and inherited skills in this art form — can carry off the work. That's the heritage behind every Sakura Nagare piece.
The body combines resin with maki-e, and the screw cap covers a 21K gold nib finished in gold plating. Cartridge or converter, your call.
