Platinum calls Chou Kuro the blackest black ink in a history stretching back more than 100 years. That claim isn't just marketing talk here, either: the blackness has been measured numerically, and the result is a clear, intense line that stays easy to read on paper.
Fountain pen ink colours have multiplied in recent years as interest grew, and plenty of writers kept asking Platinum for something blacker. Chou Kuro is the company's answer, developed across 104 years of ink making since its founding. Two practical traits stand out. The ink resists bleeding through the page, and once dry it holds up well against water and fading, which matters for letters, journal entries and records you expect to keep for a lifetime.
NOTE: When cleaning the pen nib after using Chou Kuro ink, use purified water available at pharmacies, etc. Avoid washing it with tap water as it reacts with minerals contained in the water and makes it difficult to remove the stains.
