Japanese cherry wood forms the base, treated with the traditional fuki-urushi lacquering technique also found in historic Japanese architecture. The wood is first tinted with sumi ink, then layered with black lacquer, bringing out the interplay between the lacquer and the natural grain.

It holds two to three slim pens neatly, and each pen is easy to set down and pick up again.
