A quarter of a millennium of American history is a lot to squeeze onto a pen barrel. Conklin gives it a shot with the Mark Twain 250th Anniversary Crescent Filler Limited Edition, issued for America’s 250th Anniversary (1776–2026) and named for the writer who once spoke up for the brand in person.
The Conklin Pen Company has traded on American ingenuity since 1898, and the Crescent Filler landed in 1897 as its boldest idea. A crescent-shaped metal bar along the barrel let writers pull ink straight from the bottle, cutting out leaks and fuss. That bar still sits at the centre of this pen, ringed by a decorative locking mechanism that stops it being squeezed by accident in a bag.
Mark Twain signed on as Conklin’s official spokesman and praised the pen’s dependability. His engraved signature appears on every anniversary piece.
Shape-wise, the silhouette stays faithful to the original: tapered ends, a rounded torpedo profile, cap and barrel proportions that read vintage. In the hand it feels balanced rather than featherweight. Nib options run wide — JoWo stainless steel in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, Stub and Omniflex.
Production is limited to 250 pieces worldwide, and each pen arrives in a luxury commemorative gift box. Take the theme as it’s meant: innovation, literature and 250 years of American resilience.
