Four inks make up the Van Dieman's Greek Heroes Collection, and each one takes its cue from a figure in Greek mythology. A different hero shapes every shade.
Odysseus follows the rough, wandering voyage that Homer set down in the epic. The colour is a shimmer ink that leans toward the dark, unknowable sea, with a chameleon shimmer that turns from gold to green, blue, pink and purple as light moves across it. On good paper a red sheen surfaces, like first daylight reaching a tired traveller. Best suited to a medium, broad or stub nib, so do check that your pen handles shimmer inks.
Archilles stands for power, leadership and skill, the demigod who rose to face Hector. Royal purple here echoes the cloth his mother Thetis gave him, finished with a light dusting of bronze shimmer that nods to the bronze age of the story.
Named for the young man himself, Alexander is a beige shading ink peppered with golden shimmer, a nod to the courage and fearlessness of a commander whose tactics still get studied. He tamed Bucephelus when most adults, his father Philip the second included, could not.
Leonidas held Xerxes and the vast Persian army for three whole days with only a few hundred men. This one is a dark red shimmerless shade, heavily saturated scarlet, close to the cloak Spartan soldiers wore.
