The NAWATE Fountain Pen Kuroginhaku series pairs two takes on black: Sei (惺), finished with a glossy sheen, and Ei (影), which wears a quieter matte surface. Urushi lacquer goes on in uneven strokes, then Kuroginhaku — black silver foil — is scattered across it by hand. Light moves over the pen and the depth shifts with it, something a flat black barrel can't do. Sei gleams like a star against a night sky; Ei shows itself softly, the way a shape appears under moonlight.
Traditional lacquer work meets modern pen making in the Sailor Fountain Pen Nawate #3 – Kuroginhaku. Toru Yoshida, a third-generation lacquer artist, created it, and the vertically striated cap gives both an elegant line and a grip that sits securely in the hand.
