The "maki-e" technique is an ancient and refined Japanese lacquer decoration technique, used to adorn fine objects and other urushi lacquer beauties. The term "maki-e" literally means "scattered images" or "sprayed images" and refers to metallic powder (usually gold or silver) that is "scattered" or applied over a design traced with wet lacquer.
