Kaga Hei Sowing Painting, a traditional craft, is worked into this #3776 Century pen. Japanese patterns come through in fine detail, which gives the piece its own character and a real sense of luxury.
What is Maki-e? It is a Japanese lacquer art built on urushi lacquer. The name splits into “maku,” to sprinkle, and “e,” painting — gold powder is sprinkled across layers of undercoating, painting and coloring, and the result is a deep, three-dimensional finish.
Underneath that decoration sits a black resin body coated with Urushi lacquer, trimmed in gold. Nib choices are Fine, Medium and Broad, all in 14K gold. Closing the pen is handled by a slip and seal cap mechanism that locks it shut.
