Menge:
After Virgilio and Caronte, Visconti keeps moving through Dante's Divine Comedy. Paolo & Francesca opens the next chapter, and its subject is love — the force the poem treats as both the most human thing and the most ruinous.
The story is grim. Francesca's husband, who was also Paolo's brother, killed the pair after finding them together, and Dante set them in the second circle of Hell among the lustful, carried forever inside a storm. Still together, though. That's the part this pen is built around.
Red, purple, blue and white move through the resin, and the red of Francesca meets the blue of Paolo in a deep violet at the centre. Their names are engraved and enameled on the central ring. Because the material varies from piece to piece, no two barrels look alike.
Gold metal trims catch the light across the composition. Limited to 999 pieces, a count that echoes the ordered structure Dante gave his universe.
