Sailor's Black Micarta fountain pen pairs the natural look of Micarta with real durability. The black tone comes from the material itself, not from resin, and this densely layered canvas composite doesn't show scratches easily. Use it daily and it seems to improve: the fit tightens, the surface takes on a gloss, and the patina deepens.
At the tip sits Sailor's large 21K gold nib. It flexes more than a typical 14K or 18K nib and holds up against pressure without splitting, so ink flow stays steady even during long writing sessions. Sailor describes the glide as a feather's touch.
Micarta began as an industrial material. Here the canvas-and-paper construction gives you a soft, textured grip that gets more comfortable the longer you hold it. No two pens show identical patterns, since the layered material carries its own subtle shifts in color. Writing polishes the surface a little each time, so the tone grows richer over the years.
