Here's the first do-it-yourself item Peg and Awl has made: a kit that hands you a journal to fill and teaches the hand-bound bookbinding behind it. Anselm Kiefer's Transition from Cool to Warm steered the look — uncovered books that wear their dirt and bendy corners as proof of the travels they've been on.
Learning the sewing process comes first. Get that right and the rest of the book holds together.
